Aftercare Instructions
Proper aftercare is essential for healing and maintaining your new tattoo or piercing. Follow the guidelines below for best results.
Tattoo Aftercare
- Remove bandage after two (2) hours.
- Wash your tattoo with warm water and mild soap, being sure to remove all surface blood.
- Lightly pat dry your tattoo and apply a thin coating of antibiotic ointment (Aquaphor).
- Wash your tattoo twice a day with mild soap (no washcloth!).
- Keep a thin coating of ointment on your tattoo for the next 5–7 days.
- Your tattoo will start to peel (like a sunburn) in a few days.
- After it has fully peeled, discontinue using the ointment and switch to a mild hand lotion.
- Keep your tattoo moisturized with lotion for the next two (2) weeks.
Do not:
- Over-apply ointment.
- Apply Vaseline or Neosporin.
- Rub, scratch, or pick at your tattoo.
- Expose to direct sunlight or tanning beds for two (2) weeks.
- Swim or soak in water for two (2) weeks.
Piercing Aftercare
- Do not touch with unwashed hands.
- Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Bactine, or any other ointments.
- Wash your piercing twice a day with an antibacterial soap (such as Softsoap).
- Wash your hands first, then lather up a small amount of soap.
- Place a small amount of soap on the piercing for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Gently rinse off the soap with warm water.
- OR, if using H2Ocean spray, apply 4–5 times a day.
Oral Piercing Care
- Purchase a bottle of antiseptic mouthwash (Listerine).
- Dilute it 50/50 with purified water.
- Rinse for 30 seconds every time you eat or drink.
- Refrain from spicy foods and hot beverages for the first few days.
- Sucking on ice can help to reduce swelling.
- Your piercer will tell you how long to wait to purchase a shorter piece — typically two (2) to four (4) weeks.
